1.  Enviro-Works  (formerly called Earth Works)

"Green living for our future"

Come and see how YOU can make a difference to our environment!  Its' fun it's informative and it's FREE!

  • How  to reduce the amount of waste that you produce
  • How your recycling efforts really do make a difference
  • How to be a  smart shopper
  • Identify harmful cosmetics & food additives in products
  • Understand the hazard warnings & labels on common  household products
  • Saving money and your health by cleaning without chemicals
  • Composting and worm farming
  • No-dig organic gardening
  • Environmentally friendly transport
  • Energy and water efficiency around the home and garden
  • Water pollution.

Council's Enviro-Works course runs over 5 weeks consisting of 2 hours per week and two Saturday morning practical sessions. Alternatively council will be offering daytime, evening and 3 day intensive courses to suit all members of the community in 2009/2010. Courses are held several times a year.

Please note: courses are free but are for Sutherland Shire residents only. Discounted products (composter, worm farm, natural cleaning kit) are available for participants on completion of the 5 week course (limited one product per household).

Discounted products available to participants on completion of the 5 week course or on completion of 4 specific short courses:

  • Compost bin - $20.00
  • Worm farm (only) - $40.00
  • Compost Turner - $10.00
  • Green Cleaning Kit - $20.00

2. Short courses

There are many ways that each individual can help the environment by changing a few habits at home. Sutherland Shire Council offers a series of short courses. Short courses are ideal for residents who are interested in a particular topic or are unable to attend the full five week course. The short courses are based on the information provided in the five week course.

Participants in an Enviro-Works course

Each short course runs for a duration of up to four hours on Saturday mornings. Participants are given course notes to keep for future reference.

Five types of courses are available:

  • composing/worm farming
  • detoxing your home
  • living energy & water smart
  • organic gardening
  • landfill/recycling site tour
