Oak Park to be extended and upgraded
With unobstructed 180 degree ocean views, Oak Park at Cronulla is without doubt one of the Shire's most spectacular lookout points. Council is pleased to announce that starting in winter this year (2010) the park will undergo a transformation to make it even better.
Three vacant lots located to the south of the park area and adjacent to the Esplanade will be incorporated into it – adding 2,000 square metres of recreational space.
The project, worth in excess of $1m, will transform the park and include new seating, tree planting and lighting.
The extensive works also include an upgrade to the end of Jibbon Street creating a more attractive entrance to Oak Park and improved drainage. An accessible car parking space will be created in Jibbon Street complemented by a footpath designed for equal access to the Esplanade.
The section of the Esplanade adjacent to the new open space will also be raised to improve the grades and accessibility in the area and the Esplanade will be widened to approximately 4 metres to improve pedestrian traffic.
